I am sure your district firewall is much like mine and does not allow YouTube streaming. Whether it’s because of the bandwidth required or censorship, downloading YouTube videos allows you to edit, organize, archive, and play them anywhere. Here’s a quick how-to using screenshots. I opted out of making a how-to video for now, because I want you to be able to access this from behind your firewall.
Step 1: Find the desired YouTube Video
Step 2: Copy the URL [the entire address bar] from that YouTube Video [ei, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYyttEu_NLU]
Step 3: Open KeepVid in another tab/window
Step 4: Paste the URL from YouTube into KeepVid
Step 5: Download the video [choosing a size and file type] from the KeepVid generated links. I generally download m4v files, as they are compatible with iTunes, but you can also go with .flv files, which are generally smaller. Some browsers will allow you to click on the link but you may want to right-click and “download file as” then specify the location.
*Optional Step 6: Import/Drag the video into iTunes or another program for storing/organizing.
